In their rush to make the flight for their long-awaited Christmas trip to Paris, the McCallister family inadvertently leave behind their eight-year-old son, Kevin. Tired of being bullied by his relatives, Kevin is initially delighted with his new-found freedom. But things take a turn when he finds himself needing to defend his home against a pair of inept burglars on Christmas Eve.
