Puritan police sergeant Neil Howie arrives in the remote Scottish island of Summerisle to investigate the disappearance of a 12-year-old girl. He finds the locals strange and unhelpful and soon discovers their pagan beliefs. This case may prove to be more challenging than Sergeant Howie could ever have expected.
