University Concert Hall is delighted to welcome M’ANAM to open the 2025 Limerick Sings International Choral Festival.
M'ANAM ("My Soul" in the Irish language), is an eight voice group of men based in Iceland and Ireland that combines the shared heritages of these two ancient cultures.
Their music fuses the words of Icelandic and Irish writers - ancienat texts from the Viking Hávamál and medieval Irish poets sit alongside contemporary songs and music created by Irish composer Michael McGlynn. M'ANAM's music and performances evoke landscapes of sound rooted in the dramatic natural landscapes of both countries.
M’ANAM released their debut album M’ANAM in November 2019, followed in 2021 by the EP smidiríní. They have brought their atmospheric concerts to Dublin and Glasgow’s Tradfest and Celtic Connections, both of which they headlined. In 2022 they sold out IÐNÓ in Reykjavík and headlined at Les Nuits des Choeurs in Belgium, singing to 14,000 people.
2024 began with the first public showing of the award winning feature-length documentary M'ANAM : Between Two Worlds, premiered at Bío Paradís cinema in Reykjavík in January 2024. M’ANAM have featured on the soundtrack of the animated feature by Blizzard Entertainment entitled "Warbringers: Jaina", part of a series of short films serving as a prelude to World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth and currently boasting 14 million streams. Japanese Jazz Fusion band mouse on the keys collaborated with them on "Clarity" the opening track from their highly successful album tres.
