Sister Act

Presented by Limerick Musical Society

Join the award winning Limerick Musical Society for their spring production, Sister Act, from Thursday 21 March to Saturday 23 March.

This modern musical is based upon the 1992 movie Sister Act and was written by Cheri Steinkellner, Bill Steinkellner, Alan Menken, Glenn Slater and Douglas Carter Beane. It tells the tale of Deloris Van Cartier, an aspiring singer in Philadelphia, who is auditioning to perform at her gangster boyfriend’s nightclub. Deloris believes that Curtis is going to introduce her to a big producer, but is upset when he tells her she is not ready. Hurt and rejected, Deloris decides to break up with him, but when she goes to find him she witnesses him killing one of his cronies. Deloris runs to the police, who place her in hiding at a convent until Curtis is brought to trial. At first, Deloris feels as though it will be the worst thing in the world, chafing against the constraints of convent life and an immovable Reverend Mother, but once she is introduced to the struggling choir at the convent, everything changes. She finds that many of the nuns at the convent are not that different from her, and that they are quite fun to be around. The nuns help to give her a bigger purpose in life showing her genuine love and affection that was missing in her life. Sister Act is a joyous show that uses music to bring different communities, and lifestyles, together. It has a brilliant score including: I Could Be That Guy, Fabulous Baby, Take Me to Heaven, Lady in the Long Black Dress, Raise Your Voice, Here Within These Walls and Sister Act.

A superb line-up of talent has been assembled for this production: Alison Kearney (Deloris); Barry Danaher (Eddie); Hilary Phayer (Mother Superior); Kate McBrearty (Sr. Mary Patrick); Danielle Farrell (Sr. Mary Lazarus); Hannah Doogan (Sr. Mary Robert); Jason Ronan (Curtis); Patrick Woulfe (Joey); Adam Skeff (TJ); James Malone (Pablo); Glen Carr (Tiny) and Brian Henry (Monsignor O’ Hara) along with a wonderful chorus line who will make you want to Raise Your Voice!

The fantastic production team – Director Des Henn, Musical Director Elaine Davern, Choreographer Amanda Kearns, Set Construction Tom Lynch, Lighting Joe Betts (Made for Stage) and Costumes Jacinta Florish – has worked tirelessly to create a unique staging of this iconic musical. An imaginative set, superb leads, strong supporting cast, talented orchestra, spectacular choreography and costuming make this a production not to be missed.
