Culture Night at UCH – CLASSICS & CHAPLIN ON THE COMPTON ORGAN

FREE EVENT – FOR CULTURE NIGHT!

TWO SHOWINGS 1PM & 6.30PM!

University Concert Hall is delighted to put its recently restored, historic Compton Organ centre stage for Culture Night 2022!

Come join us as we welcome acclaimed Irish organist, Ronan Murray, to perform a medley of light classics and popular tunes, showcasing this stunning instrument to perfection.

Then enjoy Charlie Chaplin’s hilarious film, The Count, screened with organ accompaniment by Ronan.

The Count was Chaplin’s fifth “Mutual” film and according to the Chicago Tribune’s review at the time of its release “It has story, speed, and spontaneity. The fun is not forced–it just bubbles out….Mr. Chaplin has his capacity for serious playing, but he is foremost as a clown and here he clowns superbly.”

This is a truly unique opportunity to enjoy the only surviving Compton Organ in Ireland, as well as hearing it played in the way it was originally intended – to accompany silent film!
