Charlie Chaplin On The Compton Organ

Charlie Chaplin On The Compton Organ

University Concert Hall is delighted to once again programme its newly restored Compton Theatre Organ, in situ since the venue’s inception in 1993 but which has been silent since 1999, as part of its Spring 2022 UCH Cinema Season.

Come join us as renowned organist Ronan Murray performs accompaniment to two of Charlie Chaplin’s best loved films, showcasing this stunning instrument to perfection.

Enjoy two of Chaplin’s classic Mutual Comedies The Rink & The Cure. Filmed in 1916, The Rink is regarded as one of his most memorable early comedies with Chaplin starring as an inept waiter, yet incredibly graceful roller skater! Chaplin’s 1917 film, The Cure, is one of his funniest, being set in a health spa and featuring the famous wrestling with the masseur scene.

Don’t miss this truly unique opportunity to enjoy classic Charlie Chaplin, on the big screen, with the unparalleled sound of live theatre organ accompaniment, exactly as these films would have been showcased when originally released! The ideal Sunday afternoon for all the family!
