Beethoven’s 7th Symphony
Mozart’s Figaro sets the scene for the hilarity that ensures and its Overture maintains a swirling, manically jolly mood throughout. Strauss’ late Duet Concertino for Clarinet and Bassoon is masterfully and brilliantly crafted, paying homage to his beloved Mozart.
In Con Brio, Widmann has chosen the same instrumentation as the Beethoven’s 7th and 8th symphonies, taking up the task of creating a similar ‘fury and rhythmic insistence’ with lean means. The momentum of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony is unstoppable, and is one of the all-time greats. The steady and inexorable build-up of intensity captures the listener in its headlong energy more than two centuries later.
Presented by the Irish Chamber Orchestra with Principal Conductor/Artistic Partner Jörg Widmann
“Obviously the creative communication between Widmann and his ensemble (Irish Chamber Orchestra) works extremely well which makes for an exciting future”
