One of the highlights of the Spring/Summer programme for Friends will be on Tuesday 9th May when acclaimed writer, Joseph O’Connor, discusses “Writing and Music, Music and Writing” with Professor Eoin Devereux.
Author, playwright, columnist, songwriter – Joseph O’Connor is also the Frank McCourt Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Limerick. His award winning novel, Star of the Sea, was an international bestseller, selling more than a million copies and being published in 38 languages.
Joseph has recently returned from a visit to Cuba where President Michael D Higgins, referring to him as “one of the great Irish diplomats of literature, renowned abroad and loved at home”, formally launched the Cuban edition of Star of the Sea at the Havana Book Fair.
Professor Eoin Devereux and Joseph O’Connor co-organise the UL Creative Writing Frank McCourt Summer School which will be held in New York this June. Professor Devereux is recognised internationally as an expert on media and popular culture, and has organised symposia on David Bowie, The Smiths and more.
