Friends of UCH Events

Spring / Summer

Spring has arrived and with it a variety of exclusive events for the valued Friends of University Concert Hall.

One of the highlights of the Spring/Summer programme for Friends will be on Tuesday 9th May when acclaimed writer, Joseph O’Connor, discusses “Writing and Music, Music and Writing” with Professor Eoin Devereux.

Author, playwright, columnist, songwriter – Joseph O’Connor is also the Frank McCourt Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Limerick. His award winning novel, Star of the Sea, was an international bestseller, selling more than a million copies and being published in 38 languages.
Joseph has recently returned from a visit to Cuba where President Michael D Higgins, referring to him as “one of the great Irish diplomats of literature, renowned abroad and loved at home”, formally launched the Cuban edition of Star of the Sea at the Havana Book Fair.

Professor Eoin Devereux and Joseph O’Connor co-organise the UL Creative Writing Frank McCourt Summer School which will be held in New York this June. Professor Devereux is recognised internationally as an expert on media and popular culture, and has organised symposia on David Bowie, The Smiths and more.

On Friday 21st April, Friends are invited to the first UCH Rising Stars concert which forms part of the venue’s growing programme, supported by the Friends. Eight exceptional, young, classical artists will be given a platform to perform programmes of their own choosing to a new audience, progressing their individual music careers. Dearbhla Collins, regarded as one of Ireland’s finest musicians, will join them as accompanist on the evening.

This year Friends can also visit Bloom, Ireland’s largest and most spectacular gardening event, as part of an organised day trip from University Concert Hall. Set in the heart of the Phoenix Park, this will be a wonderful day of food, drink and horticulture. Friends will travel together by coach, enjoy lunch and entry to this inspiring event on Thursday June 1st.

This Thursday, April 13th, Friends are invited to an Easter “Tea & Tour” morning. This is a relaxed, informal way for the Friends to meet and chat with the wider University Concert Hall team, while enjoying tea, coffee and cake on stage! They will get to take a stroll around the backstage area to see where the stars spend their time on show evenings and then extend the tour, with a guide, throughout the stunning UL campus.

The Friends of University Concert Hall play an important part in developing UCH’s programme of concerts and activities, securing the venue’s future and in bringing the best of live entertainment to Limerick, as well as providing a stage for local arts organisations. In return Friends enjoy a host of benefits including priority booking, discounted tickets, no booking fees, invitations to concerts, events and launches and an exclusive gold card offering further benefits and discounts.

Become a Friend this Spring (by April 30th) and receive a complimentary ticket to Joseph O’Connor in Conversation together a bonus gift pack containing CD, UCH Pen and a pair of tickets to a UCH Cinema Screening of your choice.
